Acupuncture

Most people associate acupuncture with the treatment of chronic painful conditions such as osteoarthritis. Studies show that acupuncture not only relieves pain by stimulating release of endorphins in the body, but it also can reduce inflammation, promote healing by stimulating healthy blood flow, control nausea, help boost and regulate the immune system and bring an overall sense of wellbeing. The treatment takes the whole patient into consideration. It can be used for a wide variety of conditions from kidney disease to neurologic disorders. Many older patients benefit from acupuncture to help stay comfortable and balanced as they age. Acupuncture is safe and most dog and cat patients even learn to look forward to their treatments. Dr. Patricia Alexander, licensed in veterinary acupuncture through the Chi Institute, is happy to consult with you as to whether acupuncture treatments can benefit your pet.

Appointments

Appointment

Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.

Bathing/Grooming

Although we are not officially groomers, our technical staff does perform
some grooming duties. We do offer bathing with medicated and non-medicated
shampoos, express anal sacs, clip matted hair coats, and do nail trims.
We do not offer styling of pets and their hair coats. If you are in
need of a professional groomer, please ask us for our recommendations.

Class 4 Laser Therapy

Our Companion Laser is, for lack of a better term, a "cold laser" as opposed to a surgical or cutting laser. Class 4 laser therapy is an FDA-cleared treatment using photobiomodulation to stimulate cellular activity. This increased cellular activity decreased inflammation/pain while increasing healing. It is helpful in treating MANY conditions, but is most commonly used in treating both acute and chronic pain, as well as skin lesions and post-surgical cases.

Dental Care

Dental Care

We have recently made efforts to excel in dental care for our patients.
Our staff members have undergone training with a veterinary dental specialist in how to identify and treat dental diseases.
We have acquired new state of the art dental equipment to do faster and more thorough dental procedures.
Our digital dental unit takes radiographs to help identify problems below the gum line, in efforts to prevent tooth extraction, confirm the need for tooth extraction, or treat diseases we would otherwise have been unaware of. In the radiograph to the right, the arrows point to fractures in the root below the gum line. This tooth appeared normal visually, and would not have been identified as a problem without this radiograph.
The importance of dental care has started to become recognized more and more in veterinary medicine.
Dental health plays many roles in your pets' overall health. Unhealthy teeth can make eating difficult or painful,
can predispose your pet to dental abscesses, and can lead to disease in other organs such as the heart and kidneys.

Emergency & Urgent Care

*  Given the increased volume of cases we have been seeing, we may not be able to see your pet, and we may have to direct you to the nearest emergency hospital.

We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty who are trained and equipped to handle many urgent care needs your pet has. Emergencies can be things such a snail bait poisoning, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment, please do cal us immediately.  Given the increased volume of cases we have been seeing, we may be able to see your pet, or direct you to the nearest emergency hospital.

We are also sometimes available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. Our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments, or have your pet dropped off to stay with us until we are able to see them. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

Full Pharmacy

Our pharmacy is well stocked. If we don't have the medication your pet is needing, we can order it for you or have it compounded at a local pharmacy which will mail it to your home.

General Wellness Exams
Healthy pets sometimes need to come to the vet too!
Annual examinations are required for patients to acquire prescription medications and vaccinations. Routine vaccinations, exams, and consultations for nutrition/training/behavior are an important part of pet ownership.
In general, we recommend that pets have yearly blood work to ensure that they are healthy, and to catch any abnormalities early when they are easiest to treat.
Disease prevention is always preferred to disease treatment!

Personalized Vaccination "Clinics"

The California Board of Veterinary Medicine requires a pet to have a CURRENT exam (within one year) with the veterinarian in order for that veterinarian to administer vaccinations or prescribe medications. Because of this, we no longer offer the vaccine clinics of old. HOWEVER, if your pet has a current examination with any of our veterinarians, you can schedule a vaccination appointment with our technicians without being charged the examination fee. This offers the same lower pricing of vaccination clinics and allows us to provide better health care to our patients as our technicians can discuss personalized vaccine needs for your pet.

Prescription diets

We carry most diets in the Hills and Royal Canin prescription diet lines.  If your pet is in need of a special diet we do not carry, we can likely order it from our suppliers.  Out of respect for our local pet stores, we carry only prescription diets, we do not carry general maintenance diets.  If you have any questions regarding prescription or general maintenance diets, please feel free to ask our staff.

Radiography/Ultrasonography

image1 We have full radiograph capability and have recently upgraded to digital radiography. This is state of the art digital imaging and allows for a much more thorough

examination and accurate diagnosis. The images can be lightened, darkened, zoomed and rotated to fully identify lesions of the musculoskeletal, abdominal, and thoracic

structures.

The image shown above is a pelvic radiograph, including the knees.

Radiology

The image below is the same film zoomed in with specific focus on the knee.

We also offer radiographs for certifications such as OFA, and have digital dental radiograph capabilities. We have a state of the art ultrasound machine which allows us to better evaluate the abdominal and thoracic cavities and the organs within. We also have the ability to call in an ultrasound specialist most days of the week to get a more specialized opinion on ultrasound cases.

Surgery-Soft Tissue and Orthopedic

Our surgery service is well prepared to take care of most of your pets' needs. Surgeries are performed every business day except for Saturdays. We offer a range of soft tissue surgeries from routine spays and neuters, mass
removals, to abdominal exploratory surgery for foreign bodies, etc. We are also fully equipped to handle a wide variety of orthopedic surgical cases such as cranial cruciate ruptures, patellar luxations, and fracture repair.
There are occasions in which our doctors feel that a pet may require more specialized surgical services, in which case we call in a board certified surgeon who can perform the procedure in our hospital. In some instances we do refer out to specialty hospitals.
